Description
This Stanley model # 772 has 1-3/4 wide jaws that opens to 1-3/4 wide and weights less then 3 lbs. Height from swivel base to top of jaws is 4 inches. This Stanley swivel Jewelers vise was built to release from under the bench. When I bought it all the swivel hardware was missing so I had a great candidate to build a custom swivel base. .I have a fondness for the Charles Parker Swivel base locking design, the ones that look like brake shoes. Basically like a old brake system you see in the 70 and under automobiles. I just scaled down the design to fit this vise. This design allows the vise to swivel 360 degrees then lock down with two brake shoes just like my old 68 Ford truck. Check out that small wrench. I am a retired Plastic Injection Mold Maker so this was not difficult for me to design and build. I actually had a good time making it. I built three when I made this one and will list the other two later.
I replaced the handle with 1144 Cold Formed CRS which is a perfect choice for handles. I machined a pocket to accept a Aluminum Bronze Thrust plate, I was able to tighten up the backlash with this wear plate I added.
I redressed the jaw faces on my surface grinder. These smooth jaws are now parallel with each other.
Painted it with Rustoleum Hammered Brown.
