Antique Stephens Patent 2 3/4" Lever Lock Parallel Bench Vise Rare Type 1

I'm pleased to offer this rare and desirable Stephens' Patent parallel bench vise with 2 3/4" jaws. This vise was well used but is in great condition and works as intended. Opening the lever fully locks the jaws in place at any width within their 3" capacity. The jaws are smooth and free of chips or cracks. The castings have been carefully examined for damage. It lacks a spring, indicating that this is an early "type 1" variant. Any markings that would have been found on the slide have worn off. Can be bench mounted with 4 lugs or on a swivel base via the threaded boss in the center of the base.
These vises were made throughout the late 1800's by the A.P. & M Stephens & Co., later renamed in 1873 to Stephens Patent Vise Co. By the turn of the century, these vises were sold by many prominent hardware firms, including Tower & Lyon.
