A young biker was killed after his motorcycle was hit by an SUV, driving on the wrong side of the road in Gurugram’s DLF Phase II, officials said. Mahindra 3XO, the SUV involved in the collision, bore a BJP sticker on its bonnet, visuals showed.
The incident occurred on Sunday, September 15, and the driver of the car was arrested and later released on bail.
A video of the incident, which occurred on September 15 (Sunday), was captured on a GoPro camera worn by the victim’s friend and showed the deadly collision on a high-speed lane near Belvedere Park on Golf Course Road.
According to eyewitness and complainant, Pradyuman, a close friend of the victim Akshat Garg, the accident took place on a high-speed lane. Pradyuman alleged that the accused, Kuldeep Thakur, was driving his Mahindra 3XO recklessly on the wrong side, leading to the fatal collision.
Despite the ambulance arriving at the scene soon after the accident, Akshat succumbed to his injuries.
The video from the scene showed Pradyuman confronting the accused, demanding to know why he was driving on the wrong side of the road. In the footage, Pradyuman is also seen urging bystanders to contact the police immediately.
The Gurugram Police has registered an FIR against Thakur, invoking multiple sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, including Section 106 (causing death by negligence), Section 281 (rash driving), Section 324(4) (mischief causing damage exceeding Rs 20,000), and Section 166 (compensation after a motor vehicle accident). Thakur, who was apprehended at the scene of the crash, was later released on bail.
Meanwhile, India Today has reached out to local authorities to determine whether an alcohol or drug test was conducted on the accused, but no official response has been received as yet.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
